Karen Harrison
My name is Karen Harrison. I was born & brought up in Derby, but I have now lived in St. Anne’s for 25 years. I’m proud to consider this beautiful town my home.
I left school at 16 and worked as an office junior, continuing in Administration through my working life with the Civil Service and Facilities Management.
Before taking early retirement 2 years ago, I spent 10 years at Lytham St. Anne’s Technology and Performing Arts College as Attendance Officer.
I have recently trained and qualified as a Family Celebrant, becoming a member of the Fellowship of Professional Celebrants, writing and delivering Weddings, Funerals, Civil Partnerships etc.
In my free time I am a committee member at St Anne’s Women’s Institute, and an enthusiastic member of 2 choirs . I am also an official volunteer with Macmillan and help out with fundraising and information events.
I’m passionate about inclusivity and community & want to make St. Anne’s a place where everyone counts, to make it a thriving area for shopping and leisure for local people and visitors alike.
I have an interest in tourism and leisure and believe promoting this is vital to the wellbeing of St. Anne’s. As well as being a wonderful seaside resort we have some beautiful green spaces in our lovely town, In Central Ward we have Beauclerk Gardens which is a lovely area which could be utilised much more than at present.
I am concerned about the number of empty shops (e.g. those on the Crescent) and would be interested in working towards attracting new business to the town. A particular interest is the St. Alban’s Road shopping area. This area has some lovely local shops, and restaurants and I would like to work towards promoting this area to locals and visitors to the town.
I am keenly interested in wellbeing issues affecting both elderly people and children/young people. I am a good listener and a team player.
