The Councillors and staff at St. Anne’s on the sea Town Council are saddened to learn of the passing of Mr Arnold Sumner, on 2nd February 2021.
Mr Sumner, a respected and well-known resident and supporter of the town, was also a Town Councillor for several years, stepping down from his duties in 2011, along with his wife Jill who was also a Town Councillor.
With his extensive knowledge of the town’s history and its people, Arnold was a huge source of information and was always enthusiastic about seeing the town develop and its businesses evolve. He was also chairman of the St. Anne’s Chamber of Trade until its closure in 2016, having been involved with the group for over 30 years and being the third generation of his family to do so.
Town Council Chairman, Cllr Roger Small said “Arnold will be truly missed, he was very popular and often to be seen around the town centre, talking to residents and business owners and taking a great interest in all that was going on. Even after stepping down as a councillor, he was a regular participant at Town Council meetings and his contribution will be missed by many. We offer our deepest condolences to Jill and to Arnold’s family.”
